Promises Kept!

I made a number of promises to you when I ran in 2006, and I've kept those promises.

I promised to show up in Concord and promote common sense solutions.

One of the reasons I ran was because of the poor attendance records of our previous Representatives. I've proud of keeping that promise. Over the last two years, I've never missed a session day. I've voted in more that 99% of roll call votes, and out of Manchester's 35 Representatives, no one has a better record then I do.

I promised to vote against a sales or income tax.
I promised to work to keep spending and taxes under control.

I voted against an income tax, which was overwhelmingly killed by a voice vote. Although a general sales tax didn't come up this session, I voted against new and higher taxes on gasoline, milk, bottles, and fuel oil, among others.

I promised to fight to protect your privacy and civil liberties.

I'm very proud of my record of fighting to protect our privacy and civil liberties. I co-sponsored the legislation that opted our state out of the Federal REAL ID Act, a national ID card system. I was the only Representative who objected to an amendment that would have prohibited many write-in votes in local elections from being counted - and my case against it was persuasive enough that the whole House overturned the committee's recommendation. Just a few weeks ago, the Union Leader's State House Dome column gave me co-credit for stopping a bill that would have created a state database of our prescription drug use. Of course, I've lost some fights too, but I've been up there working hard.

I promised to work to protect our environment.

I've kept that promise by supporting legislation that established Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) for power companies, and voting to have New Hampshire join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

I promised to work for safer neighborhoods.

We've taken a step in that direction with legislation that provides for stricter sentences for gang members.
